Eloise Stark is a DPhil student in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research focuses upon the neural dynamics of face processing, and specifically the salience of infant faces and how “cuteness” operates to ensure infant survival. This research also has an emphasis on parent-infant interaction in the context of infant craniofacial abnormality such as cleft lip, and the development of interventions to support these families. This doctoral work will form part of a larger project to elucidate the functional neuroanatomy of the human parental brain, and to understand perinatal psychiatric disorders, such as postpartum depression. She also has broader research interests in autism, empathy, perinatal mental health, and resilience, and has published on music and eudaimonia, happiness, mindfulness meditation, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Eloise writes for The Psychologist magazine, blogs for The Mental Elf and the Student Minds blog.

She also works as a Tutor for the Oxfordshire Recovery College, designing and teaching courses related to mental health to Oxfordshire-based people who use mental health services, their families, carers, and mental health professionals. Eloise strongly believes that education can empower people to become an expert in their own wellbeing.
