9th July, 2018 - Caitlin Black

Caitlin completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Sheffield Hallam University. She is currently studying for an MSc in Applied Neuropsychology at The University of Bristol. Presently, Caitlin is conducting her research project within the epilepsy surgery programme in North Bristol NHS Trust.  The research is investigating the neuropsychological predictors of quality of life outcome following on from epilepsy surgery. Alongside this she is also undertaking a summer placement as an Honorary Assistant Psychologist at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

She has previous experience working in mental health settings and spent three years as a group facilitator for a women’s organisation in Sheffield. In 2017 she has became a trustee at Self Injury Support, a national charity which provides crisis support to girls and women affected by self-injury.  Overall, Caitlin’s main area of research interest is epilepsy, brain infections and cellular responses to brain injury.

Caitlin’s aim is to be a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Neuropsychology.  In addition, she is passionate about bringing science together with public engagement, with a specific interest in documentaries as a means of scientific storytelling and hopes to do this alongside her career in Clinical Psychology
