I am an expert by experience, using my lived experience of mental health difficulties to instigate change. Over the last 5/6 years, I have been involved with a range of mental health charities and campaigns, and have recently also started exploring service user involvement in research, which I am finding really interesting. I am currently doing a peer counselling skills training course which I will be tweeting about this week, as well as my day-to-day experiences living and working with mental health challenges.

Michelle is a first-year ESRC-funded doctoral student in cross-school at the University of Glasgow, looking into the impact of deprivation, health barriers and choices on the (un)employment of those living with psychosis. Her previous work has looked into self-care during benefit sanctions in those living with schizophrenia and psychosis, caregiver recidivism after child maltreatment interventions, and mental health befrienders’ experience of burn-out and support systems.

From an early age, Abbie knew that she wanted to pursue a career which provided the opportunity to help others. Since first studying Psychology at GCSE level, her passion for the field has grown. With a particularly keen interest in adult mental health and neuropsychology, she aims to become a practising clinician to help and support those in need.

I am also a STEM ambassador, and I have volunteered for a charity called Circles South East for four years. Circles is a charity which introduces registered sex offenders back into the community. Joanna Berger fell in love with the science of psychology in high school. After completing a bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Virginia, Joanna later completed an MSc in "Applied Animal Behavior and Animal Welfare" at the University of Edinburgh. Her dissertation research determined the effect of a novel enrichment device on the territories, social structure, and behavior of African Grey Parrots (Psittacus erithacus) at the ground-level of an aviary.
